The youths from Barbados and North Uist met online to introduce themselves and share what island life is like for them. The youths were inspiration from objects and important locations around them, conveying narratives of heritage that they feel have shaped who they are.
The adoloscents on North Uist created short films introducing themselves and talking about their favourite location on their island. A selection can be seen below:
August 2022
Youths will interpret historical events and folk tales by creating digital “walks and stories”. These stories will give youths the opportunity to enact their past through theatre and film-making. This is an opportunity to learn skills and engage with history in an enjoyable way.
October 2022
To conclude, the youths will reflect on how this new partnership across the Atlantic has helped them develop new understandings of their vernacular stories. This newfound partnership will aim to highlight both similarities and differences in the youths’ island identities.
