Stories from Barbados

Barbados Museum

The Barbados Museum houses a collection of artefacts that range from natural history to indigenous and colonial collections. Students from the theatre arts programme picked several objects and exhibits and retold stories associated with them. Below is a final collection of stories, written, read out, and acted by these students.

The Windrush Generation

Between 1948 and 1971 many people arrived in the United Kingdom from the Caribbean. This generation of people is called the Windrush Generation. Some of these families came from Barbados, looking for a new life. However, despite living in Britain for many years, the rights of these immigrants are often overlooked.

The drama below explores the various perspectives of people living in the UK and fighting for their rights.

Hear from the students who took part in this production as they share why they think retelling this story is important to their identity and community.
